PHYTOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF ORA LEAVES (PTERОСARPUS SОYAUXII)
Abstract
Thepresent study investigatesthe phytochemicalcomposition ofPterocarpus
soyauxii leaves, revealing the presence ofseveralbioactive compoundswith
potential medicinal benefits. The leaveswere collected, washed, driedand
pulverized topowder. The powderedsample wasmaceratedwithethanoland

include polyphenols, tannins, saponins, flavones, terpenoids, glycosidesand
phenols, with other constituentseither absent or in minute quantities.
Quantitative analysis showstanninsat 0.215mg/L, saponinsat 3.0%, flavones
at 0.0764mg/L, andglycosidesat 0.0846mg/L. Tanninsare recognizedfor
their astringent, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties, while
saponinshave demonstratedcholesterol-lowering, immune-modulatingand
antimicrobial effects. The antioxidant propertiesof flavonesandflavonols
suggest their role in combatingoxidative stressandreducingthe riskof
chronicdiseasessuch ascancerandcardiovascularconditions. Overall, the
study supportsthe use ofPterocarpus soyauxiileavesintraditionalmedicine,
suggestingtheir potential for developing therapeuticapplications, particularly
in the areasofinflammation, cardiovascular health, andimmune defense
