Abstract

ABSTRACT Jatropha tanjorensis commonly known as hospital too far in eastern part of Nigeria. It is renowned for its nutritional and medicinal properties, attributed to it diverse phytochemical composition. This study aimed to analyze the qualitative phytochemical profile of dried J. tanjorensis leaves using meceration method. The dried leaves were found to contain a rich array of bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, alkaloids, phenolic acids etc. These compounds exhibit potential antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti inflammatory, and anticancer properties suggesting J. tanjorensis as a valuable source of natural bioactive compounds with potential pharmaceutical and nutraceutical applications. Further research focusing on the qualitative analysis and bioactivity assay is recommended to fully elucidate the therapeutic potential of these phytochemicals
