EFFECT OF ETHANOLIC LEAF EXTRACT OF CRASSULACEA AND BISOPROLOL ON LIVER ENZYMES AND HISTOLOGY OF THE LIVER ON DOXOROBOCIN INDUCED TOXICITY
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigates the “Effect of Ethanolic leaf extract of Crassulacea and Bisoprolol on Liver Enzymes and Histology of the liver on Doxorobocin Induced Toxicity” The research involved thirty (35) wistar rats weighing between 110g-190g which were acclimatized and divided into five groups of seven (7) rats each. Group 1 (Normal control), Group 2 (Crassulaceae only) Group 3 (Dox only), Group 4 (Dox + Cr) Group 5 (Dox + Bis). The ethanlonic extract of Crassulaceae was administered orally at dose 600mg/kg bwt, Biso was administered orally at dose 5mg/kg bwt and Doxo was administered interperitonally at 50mg/kg bwt. All rats were given normal rat chow and water ad libtum. The regimen lasted for 28 days thereafter the animals were sacrificed using chloroform anaesthesia. The blood was collected via cardiac puncture using a syringe into a sample bottle and centrifuged at 2500rpm for 10 minutes. Serum was collected for analysis of liver enzymes: Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST), Alanine transaminase (ALT) and Alanine phosphatase (ALP). The serum AST levels showed significant increase (p
