Abstract

This project work explores the design and implementation of a wired network using Local Area Network (LAN) infrastructure, aimed at providing a reliable, secure, and efficient communication system for a specified environment. In an era where seamless connectivity and data integrity are crucial for organizational operations, wired LANs continue to offer superior performance in terms of speed, security, and reliability compared to their wireless counterparts. The project addresses the specific needs of a medium-sized institution, requiring a robust network infrastructure to support its daily operations, data management, and communication requirements. The study begins by analyzing the existing network framework within the institution, identifying significant gaps such as bandwidth limitations, security vulnerabilities, and scalability issues. A comprehensive requirement analysis was conducted, considering the institution's current and future needs. The design phase involved selecting an optimal network topology, choosing appropriate hardware (including switches, routers, and cabling), and developing a detailed IP addressing scheme to ensure efficient data routing and network management. In implementing the network, industry-standard practices were followed, focusing on high-quality installations and precise configurations of all network devices. The project also integrates advanced security measures, such as firewalls and intrusion detection systems, to safeguard the network against potential threats. A rigorous testing phase was conducted to evaluate the network's performance, stability, and security under various conditions, ensuring it meets the institution's requirements. This project concludes with a discussion of the challenges encountered during the design and implementation phases, along with recommendations for future enhancements. The successful deployment of this wired LAN infrastructure underscores the critical role of well-designed network systems in enhancing organizational efficiency and security. The findings of this project contribute to the broader understanding of LAN technologies and offer a practical framework for implementing similar networks in comparable environments.
