Abstract

This descriptive cross-sectional study assessed the perception of hypertension causes, factors, and management among 121 young adults at a Primary Health Centre in Ogbomoso, Nigeria. Data collected via structured questionnaires revealed high levels of knowledge, with 69.4% identifying sedentary lifestyles and 73.6% identifying alcohol as risk factors. Majority (89.3%) recognized that lifestyle modifications like abstaining from alcohol can manage the condition. Significant relationships were found between age and perceptions of causes (P=0.002), factors (P=0.01), and prevention (P=0.002). The study concludes that while knowledge is high among those attending health facilities, broader community awareness is needed.
