Abstract

ABSTRACT The study was carried out to produce and evaluate a biofertilizer from rice straw using Aspergillus niger. The work aimed to convert rice straw, an abundant agricultural residue, into a valuable organic fertilizer through microbial fermentation. The rice straw was collected, dried, and pretreated before being inoculated with Aspergillus niger under controlled composting conditions. During the fermentation period, parameters such as temperature, pH, and moisture were monitored to ensure proper microbial activity. The final product was analyzed for nutrient content, including nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Results from the maize pot trials showed improved plant growth, such as increased plant height and number of leaves, when compared with untreated control. This indicates that the biofertilizer produced from rice straw can serve as a suitable alternative to chemical fertilizers. The study concludes that utilizing rice straw for biofertilizer production not only helps in waste management but also promotes sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural practices.
