Abstract

This work is focus on application development for power plant analysis and simulation. This application is use to solve power plant problems in gas turbines and steam turbines. The Gas turbine is made up of the simple and complex turbines, while the steam turbine is made up of saturated steam, superheated steam and reheated steam turbines. The use of hand to solve power plant problems are more cumbersome and time consuming, due to the problem associated with interpolations. This application has been developed to help unravel this challenges for fast, efficient and accurate calculations and simulations in power plants. Using scripts coded in MATLAB, the application was developed to accomplish the set objectives such as developing interpolation models to estimate steam table values, develop solvers that will perform simulations of these power plants. Results from the application simulation validated against manual results shows values for dryness fraction and work ratio at 42bar are 0.6959 and 0.9970 while manually the dryness fraction is 0.696 and work ratio is 0.996 giving an improvement in accuracy of 4%. From this result, the application is more accurate than the manual calculation.
