KNOWLEDGE AND AWARENESS OF DIABETES MELLITUS AMONG STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CROSS RIVER STATE
Abstract
This study investigated the knowledge and awareness of diabetes mellitus among students of the
University of Cross River State. Using a descriptive survey design, 120 students were selected via
simple random sampling. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed
using frequency counts, percentages, and Chi-square statistics at a 0.05 level of significance.
Findings indicated that students possess a moderate level of knowledge and awareness regarding
diabetes, including risk factors, symptoms, complications, and preventive measures. The study
concluded that health education programs are necessary to improve awareness among students.
Recommendations include organizing seminars, workshops, and awareness campaigns on diabetes
prevention within the university community.
