Abstract

Abstract This study investigated the influence of teaching aids on pupils’ academic achievement in English language, focusing on visual, audio, and audio-visual teaching aids, among pupils in Calabar South Local Government Area, Cross River State. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design, with a population of pupils in elementary schools. A sample of 100 pupils was selected using a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings revealed that visual, audio, and audio-visual teaching aids significantly influence pupils’ academic achievement in English language, with audio-visual aids having the strongest impact. The study concluded that the use of teaching aids enhances pupils’ understanding, participation, and performance in English lessons. Recommendations include effective integration of teaching aids by teachers, provision of adequate instructional materials by schools, and training of teachers on their use.
