CLINICAL TELEMEDICINE
Abstract
This study examined the concept of Clinical telemedicine or simply
telemedicine is the remote delivery of healthcare services, such as health
assessments or consultations, over the telecommunications infrastructure. It
allows healthcare providers to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients using
common technology, such as video conferencing and smartphones, without
the need for an in-person visit. It is stressful, inconvenient and time
consuming to always visit the hospital each time medical attention is needed,
especially in cases of emergency. Hence, there is need for clinical
telemedicine to attend to emergency cases, reduce the stress, time and cost
of getting medical care generally. In carrying out this research, the researcher
adopted observation method and reviewed existing documents (like textbooks,
projects, blogs, websites, journals) to obtain relevant information on the
subject matter. The findings indicate that the proposed clinical telemedicine
system will enable patients to easily contact healthcare providers at reduced
time and cost. In the same vein, healthcare providers can easily give medical
attention to patients at reduced time and cost.
