PHYTOCHEMICAL SCREENING, PROXIMATE COMPOSITION, ANTI-NUTRITIONAL FACTORS FROM MIMOSA PUDICA
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The study was taken to determine the quantitative and qualitative values of the phytochemicals present in the LSR Minosa pudica, also the proximate and antinutrient constituent. The samples of the leaf, stem and root of the plant values gotten air dried for 3 weeks, oven dried for 30 minutes at a temperature range of 40-60℃. Soxhlet extraction was carried out and the above analysis were carried out on the extract. The quantitative evaluation of phytochemical shows the following alkaloid: leaf (2.16±0.15), stem (0.46±0.11) and root (1.45±0.19). Flavonoid: leaf (7.43±0.41), stem (1.52±0.19), root (1.34±0.21). Saponins: Leaf (925±010), stem (1.15±0.19), root (0.74±0.10). Terpenoids:Leaf (4.56±0.19), stem (429±023), root (3.24±0.40). tannins: leaf (0.73±0.08), stem (0.3±0.05), root (0.47±0.04). Phytate: leaf (0.53±0.06), stem (0.17±0.04), root (0.31±0.04). cardiac glycoside: Leaf (004±003), stem is below detectable limit, root (002±001). then for proximate content, moisture content: Leaf (45.83±0.83), stem (32.06±2.12), root (52.42±2.10). Ash content: Leaf (8.16±0.11), stem (1.38±0.83), root (3.14±0.10). fat: leaf (3.53±0.07), stem (1.05±0.14), root (0.58±0.04). crude fibre: leaf(12.68±0.13), stem (18.110.09), root (21.17±0.05)..crude protein: leaf (13.31±0.12), stem (8.36±0.09), root (5.93±0.19, carbohydrate content: log (16.48±1.19), stem (39.04±2.31), root (16.75±2.13). for antinutrients, phytates: leaf (8.41±0.13), stem (21.16±0.11), root (9.22±0.43). Tannins: leaf (20.16±0.11), stem (13.16±0.11), root (11.18±2.20). oxalates: leaf (16.11±0.23), stem (25.23±0.34), root (5.16±0.1). The comprehensive analysis of Mimosa pudica has unveiled its potential as a valuable plant with diverse applications. Its phytochemical composition, including alkaloids, terpenoids, flavonoids, and saponins, suggests promising medicinal properties. The proximate analysis has shed light on its nutritional content, showing variations in moisture, ash, crude fiber, carbohydrates, protein, and fat across different plant parts. However, the presence of antinutrients such as phytates, oxalates, and tannins requires careful consideration in consumption. For optimal consumption, the leaf of Mimosa pudica stands out as the most favorable choice due to its moderate fat content, relatively balanced nutritional composition, and the presence of valuable phytochemicals. While the stem and root also have their unique qualities, the leaf offers the best combination of nutrients and phytochemicals, making it a suitable option for both traditional medicinal and dietary purposes.
