Abstract

The study was examine "Student's Acquired Science Process Skills and Academic Achievement in Chemistry in Obudu Local Government Arca of Cross River State". To achieve the purpose of the study, four research questions and four research hypotheses were posed and formulated to guide the study. The study adopted ex-post facto research design. The population of the study was (1,156) students. Stratified random technique was adopted to sample 252 respondents for the study. Instruments used were titled "Science Process Skills Questionnaires" (SPSQ) and Achievement Test titled "Chemistry Achievement Test" (CAT) was used for collection of data. The instruments were validated by the supervisor. Data collected were analysis using simple linear regression. Findings revealed that, there is a significant influence of Observation skill, Classification skill, inferring skill and measuring skill on student's academic achievement in Chemistry in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State. Based on the finding, conclusion were drawn and recommendations made; among others, that curriculum planners, who are in charge of all activities guiding teaching and learning in the classroom, should design curriculum contents such as the use of scientific skills for teaching delivery by teachers and acquisition by students Science teachers. should encourage students to acquire observing skills through. instructional strategies.
