Abstract

ABSTRACT The study examined the impact of digitalization on the newspaper printing industry in Nigeria, with three main objectives to assess the extent of digitalization in the industry, to explore the opportunities offered by digitalization, and to identify the challenges faced by traditional newspaper printing companies. The research employed a survey method and administered a well-structured questionnaire to 200 respondents from six printing companies in Nigeria. The findings revealed a mixed landscape in terms of digitalization within the Nigerian newspaper printing industry. While a significant portion of companies have adopted digital technologies to varying degrees, there is still room for further growth and improvement. This suggests that the industry is on a trajectory towards modernization, though challenges persist for slower adopters of digital technology. The study revealed a high extent of digitalization in Nigeria's printing industry, with most companies adopting digital technologies, signifying a positive trend towards modernization. Furthermore, it highlighted the transformative potential of digitalization, offering enhanced efficiency, improved customer experiences, data-driven decision-making, and global reach. Nevertheless, traditional newspaper printing companies face significant challenges like declining readership and digital competition, emphasizing the urgency of adaptation. Therefore, it is recommended that traditional newspaper printing companies in Nigeria proactively adopt digital strategies, diversify their revenue streams, and invest in the necessary technology and training to remain competitive and relevant in the evolving media landscape.
