Abstract

Abstract The effect of land uses on the percentage porosity across four land uses namely an arable land, a fallowed land, an oil palm plantation and a block industry at Mgbirichi, Ohaji egbema was investigated. The experiment was arranged in a Complete Randomized Block Design with land uses and depths as treatments. The result of the experiment showed a significant differences in the percentage sand, silt, clay, percentage porosity, bulk density and organic matter across the land uses. The fallowed land had a mean organic matter value of 2.6% against the 1.96%, 1.96% and 1.49% recorded in the arable land, block industry and oil palm plantation. There were also low levels of organic matter across the four land uses with the exception of the fallowed land thus consequently leading to low levels of percentage porosity, water content, available phosphorus and total nitrogen,
