ASSESSMENT LEVELS OF ORGANOPHOSPHORUS PESTICIDES IN JUTE MALLOW FARM IN OAUSTECH
Abstract
Jute mallow (Corchorus olitorius L.), a leafy vegetable of the Malvaceae family, is a mainstay of farming and gastronomic civilization in Nigeria and the whole of West Africa (Akanbi et al., 2020). Called by various regional names as "ewedu" by the Yoruba, "ayoyo" by the Hausa, and "krain krain" in parts of Sierra Leone, jute mallow has been acclaimed for its versatility in traditional dishes and its rich nutritional profile (Oladimeji et al., 2021). The vegetable is typically prepared as a mucilaginous soup, which is consumed with staples like yam, cassava, amala, or fufu, and hence forms a staple in both urban and rural households' diets.
