Abstract

ABSTRACT Harmonicdistortioninpowersystemsisagrowingconcernduetotheincreasingpenetrationofnonlinearloads.Harmonicscanleadtovariousissues,includingincreasedlosses,equipmentdamage,andreducedsystemefficiency.Activefiltersareeffectivedevicesformitigatingharmonicsbyinjectingcompensatingcurrentstoneutralizeharmoniccomponents. Thisresearchinvestigatestheapplicationofactivefiltersforharmonicmitigationinpowersystems.Asimulationapproachwasadoptedtoanalyzetheimpactofactivefiltersonvoltagewaveformsandharmonicspectra.MATLABwasusedtodevelopsimulationmodels,andtheperformanceofactivefilterswasevaluatedunderdifferentharmonicconditions.Theresultsdemonstratedtheeffectivenessofactivefiltersinreducingharmonicdistortion.Theinitialvoltagewaveformexhibitedsignificantharmoniccomponents,deviatingfromtheidealsinusoidalshape.Byapplyinganactivefilter,theharmoniccontentwassignificantlyreduced,resultinginasmootherandmoresinusoidalwaveform.Theharmonicspectrumanalysisfurtherconfirmedtheeffectivenessoftheactivefilter.Themagnitudeofharmonicpeakswassignificantlyreducedafterfiltering,indicatingacleanerandmoresinusoidalwaveform.Thisreductioninharmonicdistortioncanleadtoimprovedpowersystemqualityandreliability.Thestudyalsoexploredtheimpactofdifferentfilterconfigurationsandcontrolstrategiesonharmonicmitigationperformance.Theresultsshowedthatthedesignandtuningofactivefiltersarecrucialforachievingoptimalharmonicreduction. Inconclusion,thisresearchprovidesvaluableinsightsintotheapplicationofactivefiltersforharmonicmitigationinpowersystems.Thefindingshighlighttheeffectivenessofactivefiltersinimprovingpowersystemqualityandreliability.Futureresearchcouldfocusonreal-timeimplementation,adaptivecontrolstrategies,andtheintegrationofactivefilterswithotherharmonicmitigationtechniques.
