APPRAISING AND MODELLING FACTORS RESPONSIBLE FOR SUSTAINABLE WASTE MANAGEMENT
Abstract
Effective waste management is crucial for mitigating environmental degradation, promotion public health and achieving sustainable development. This study aims to appraise and model the factors influencing sustainable waste management practices. An approach integrating structural modeling (ISM), is employed to identify, analyze and prioritize key factors. The analysis reveals that factors C3 (Economic Viability), C5 (Consumer Behavior), and C6 (Global Trade Dynamics) have the strongest reachability power, indicating their critical importance in appraising and modelling factors responsible for sustainable waste management. Prioritizing these factors in strategic planning is essential for promoting sustainability in the industry. Furthermore, factors P4 (Job Creation and Economic Growth) and P8 (Technological Advancements) also warrant significant attention, as they each possess two transitive links within the network. This positions them as the second most influential considerations in the hierarchy of factors impacting the recycling of construction and engineering waste. Job creation and economic growth highlight the social benefits of recycling initiatives and their potential to stimulate local economies. Meanwhile, technological advancements are essential for improving recycling processes, enhancing efficiency, and developing innovative solutions to the challenges faced in sustainable waste management. The results provide valuable insights for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers seeking to develop effective waste management strategies. This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by offering a systematic framework for evaluating and improving sustainable waste management practices.
