Abstract
ABSTRACT
Exclusive breastfeeding is the act of introducing just breast milk to child during the first six months of life. The importance of exclusive breastfeeding goes down memory length. It benefits both the mother and child in various ways health-wise which summarizes the brain function and physiologic function of the child. It also includes the mental health of the mother, building a connection or bond between mother and child, among others. This study was designed to assess the relationship between working mothers and exclusive breastfeeding practices. To achieve this feat, quantitative data was taken and 40 women were selected for the study using the simple random technique. This research carried out in Joseph Ayo Babalola University revealed the knowledge the women had on exclusive breastfeeding, the work environment factors and exclusive breastfeeding relation. It includes the crèche being far, lack of access to crèche, workload, not enough break periods between work, providing maternity leave and the availability of daycare that relates affect and effectiveness to exclusive breastfeeding practices. In broad sense, there’s a plus and minus to this in the sense that promoting maternity leave is an effect or promoting factor towards exclusive breastfeeding whereas, having a crèche that is far or the policy of putting in place little to no time to care for the child during working hours is an affective factor towards exclusive breastfeeding.
