Abstract

This report presents the design, construction, and implementation of a cost-effective, microcontroller-based system for automatic water level monitoring and control in storage tanks. The system addresses common issues with manual pump operation, including water wastage from overflow and pump damage from dry running. The solution employs an Arduino Uno microcontroller and two waterproof HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensors for non-contact, hygienic water level detection, avoiding corrosion and contamination problems associated with traditional probes. The control unit compares sensor readings against preset thresholds, activating a relay to switch the pump ON when water is low and OFF when the tank is full. The system also allows dual operation: fully automated level control and manual timing-based control for flexible operation. Testing demonstrated stable and well-regulated power supply performance, with the ultrasonic sensors achieving high accuracy in water level detection. The system provides reliable, real-time feedback, ensuring efficient water management, energy conservation, and pump protection. Overall, the developed system offers a sustainable and practical solution for domestic and small-scale industrial water storage applications.
