BATIK PAINTING: A VISUAL REPRESENTATION OF YAKURR KINGSHIP ENTHRONEMENT
Abstract
Batik is a dyeing technique using wax resist. The term is also used to describe
patterned textiles created with that technique. Batik is made by drawing or stamping
wax on a cloth to prevent colour absorption during the dyeing process. This creates a
patterned negative when the wax is removed from the dyed cloth. Artisans may create
intricate coloured patterns with multiple cycles of wax application and dyeing. Patterns
and motifs vary widely even within countries. Some pattern hold symbolic significance
and are used only in certain occasions, while others were created to satisfy market
demand and fashion trends. Batik painting is a fabric printed by an Indonesian method
of hand-printing textiles by coating with wax the parts not to be dyed. The major
Objectives of the Study is to visually represent the enthronment of yakurr kingship. To
use a textile technique called batik to transfer designs. To Produce a long-lasting visual
representation of the enthronment of yakurr kingship with the designated fabric. While
the Research Questions was; To what extent can batik be used in the production of
decorative designs? What technique can be employed to transfer visual drawings to
designs? What are the constraints on the use of batik to produce a design on fabric?
The data was presented using the process of making Batik. However this project sort to
create and produce a visual representation using batik painting to capture the
enthroment of yakurr kingship that would serve as a decorative frame work. The idea
behind this Study was to capture the enthroment of yakurr kingship and then transfer
them unto a fabric for the decoration. It was recommended that In light of this research,
In light of this research, it is advised that textile artist should make effort to familiarize
themselves with various types of batik technique and explore on different types of motif.
The Department of Visual Arts and Technology should teach students on how to use
their decorated fabric to produce other forms of art and craft.
