DC MOTOR SPEED CONTROL USING ARDUINO AND PWM FOR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATION
Abstract
DC motors are widely used in various applications that require precise and efficient speed
control. In this project, we Propose a system for controlling the speed of a DC motor using
Arduino and Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) techniques. The Arduino platform offers a
versatile and cost-effective solution for implementing motor control algorithms. The primary
objective of this research is to develop a reliable and accurate speed control mechanism for a DC
motor. PWM is employed as the control technique due to its simplicity and effectiveness in
adjusting the average voltage applied to the motor, thereby regulating its speed. The Arduino
microcontroller acts as the central control unit, generating the PWM signals and monitoring the
motor speed. The implementation process involves connecting the Arduino board to a motor
driver circuit, which generate 24V for necessary for control signals to the DC motor output. The
Arduino code is developed to accept user input, match the desired speed, and translate it into
corresponding PWM signals. These signals are then fed to the motor driver, which adjusts the
motor’s voltage accordingly to it desire configuration DC motor are use extensively in the
industry where hightorque is requiredBecause of it's flexibility in speed controlling and speed
torque characteristics, it's very much in demand. The PID controller is generated by Arduino
microcontroller used in the speed controlling byapplying Buck- boost converter as voltage
regulator. DC motor are widely used in the the industry, therefore speed control of demotor
becomes essential. For example in saw mill, high speed motor are required to cut down logs' or
in some situation like in papers Mills, we need low speed, In traction system, we need to slow
down the engine on approaching the stationWhereas in between two location high speed is
needed. The project is concerned on simulation using MATLAB simulink where the DC motor is
modeled and PID controller is apply.
