IMPLICATIONS OF NIGERIA-CAMEROON DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS, 2020-2025
Abstract
The study examined the implications of Nigeria-Cameroon Diplomatic Relations from the period of 2020-2025. Diplomatic relations serve as a vital framework for the management of international affairs, shaping how nations interact through peaceful dialogue, treaties, trade agreements, and conflict resolution mechanisms. Against the study between the three objectives which are to examine the nature of Nigeria-Cameroon economic diplomatic engagements between 2020-2025, to assess the impact of Nigeria-Cameroon economic diplomatic on cross-border arrangement from 2020-2025 and to examine the implications of Nigeria-Cameroon economic diplomacy from 2020-2025. The study used Theory of Realism. The study used study adopts a descriptive and analytical research design using documentary analysis. The result indicated that the broader implications of Nigeria–Cameroon diplomacy were both promising and precarious. While progress was made in trade integration, energy cooperation, and boundary demarcation, unresolved disputes in Bakassi, gendered vulnerabilities in border regions, and socio-economic grievances hindered sustainable peace and stability. The study concluded that Nigeria and Cameroon made significant strides in strengthening diplomatic ties, sustainable progress requires addressing both structural and security-related barriers. Thus, based on the findings the study recommended that Nigeria and Cameroon should intensify joint military operations and intelligence-sharing to curb Boko Haram and ISWAP activities along the border. Enhancing the capacity of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) would ensure safer trade corridors and protect border communities.
