Abstract

Health communication has become an indispensable tool in addressing global health disparities, particularly in rural areas where access to healthcare services is limited. In many developing countries, including Nigeria, rural communities continue to face a range of health-related challenges. For example, a study by Brieger (2020) examined the role of mass media in health communication within rural Nigeria, highlighting the limited reach and effectiveness of such initiatives in these areas. The use of mass media, particularly radio, has emerged as a powerful approach to address these challenges, enabling the dissemination of health information to even the most remote areas. Studies have shown that radio has a unique ability to bridge the gap between healthcare systems and marginalized populations by delivering accessible and culturally relevant health messages (Adebayo & Oke, 2022, 45–58). In this context, radio has become a critical platform for raising awareness about preventive healthcare, promoting healthy behaviours, and empowering communities with the knowledge needed to make informed health decisions.
