ASSESSMENT OF THE FACTORS HINDERING TOURISM DEVELOPMENT IN BAUCHI STATE.

ABSTRACT Tourism development is a vital component of economic growth, job creation, and cultural exchange, with significant contributions to Nigeria's GDP. This study focuses on Bauchi State, Nigeria, examining the impact of tourism development on the local economy, environment, and society. The literature review reveals that tourism has contributed approximately 24.5% to Nigeria's GDP, with Bauchi State accounting for 10.2%. Key factors influencing tourism development include infrastructure, security, and marketing strategies. This study highlights the need for sustainable tourism development, protecting the environment, culture, and economy of host communities, and provides insights into the potential for growth and development in Bauchi State's tourism industry . This research work was also explored under past literature work on tourism development in Bauchi state, Nigeria and the world at large. A quantitative method approach was used. Questionnaires was used as instruments of data collection. Out of 250 targeted respondents, only 222 were valid. This shows the demand for the development of the Tourism industry in Bauchi state. Tourism also serve as a major revenue deriving sector of the state, contributing to infrastructural development, increase well-being of the people in Bauchi state and enhancing small and medium enterprise. Findings shows that tourism development in Bauchi State is paramount for the sustainability of the vast tourism potentials in the state. The results suggest that with stronger infrastructural development to address the current infrastructural challenges and improved security measures for the safety of both the tourists, professionals and the tourism stakeholders, tourism could serve as a more powerful tool and a source for improving the Growth Domestic Product of the Bauchi state Nigeria. This research concludes that tourism in Bauchi state is still at a developing stage and requires adequate intervention to ensure sustainability. Strong coordination among stakeholders, adequate professionnals to drive the tourism policy plan, proper government support, private partnership, and adequate security measures are essential for sustainable development of tourism industry in Bauchi state, Nigeria.
