CHALLENGES OF MANAGING BANK LIQUIDITY IN NIGERIA (A STUDY OF FIRST BANK OF NIGERIA PLC)
Abstract
Abstract
Liquidity management remains one of the most critical aspects of banking operations, particularly in developing economies like Nigeria where financial markets are highly sensitive to macroeconomic fluctuations. This study examines the challenges associated with managing bank liquidity in Nigeria, using First Bank of Nigeria Plc as a case study. The research highlights key issues such as regulatory constraints, economic volatility, poor loan recovery, and the impact of monetary policies.
The study adopts both qualitative and quantitative approaches, drawing data from financial reports, policy documents, and structured analysis. Findings reveal that inconsistent regulatory policies, high non-performing loans, and external economic shocks significantly affect liquidity positions. The study concludes that effective liquidity management requires strategic planning, regulatory cooperation, and improved risk management frameworks.
