Abstract

ABSTRACT Access to clean and sustainable water remains a major challenge in many developing urban and peri-urban communities in Nigeria. This project focuses on the assessment of groundwater potential and the development of a borehole at 18 Ukuele Road and Exited Estate, Osusu Umule Aba. The study was conducted to evaluate subsurface water availability, determine aquifer characteristics, and ensure the successful development of a reliable borehole system. Geophysical methods, particularly electrical resistivity techniques, were employed to investigate subsurface formations and identify water-bearing zones. The findings revealed favorable hydrogeological conditions with significant aquifer thickness and adequate yield potential. Borehole drilling was carried out based on these findings, followed by well completion and water quality analysis. The results indicate that the area possesses sufficient groundwater resources capable of supporting domestic and small-scale industrial use. However, concerns regarding contamination risks and sustainable extraction practices were noted. This study highlights the importance of proper site investigation before borehole development and emphasizes the need for continuous monitoring of groundwater resources.
