ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION IMPACT ON OFFICE TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT STUDENT FOR SELF RELIANCE IN POLYTECHNIC IN ABIA STATE
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigates the impact of entrepreneurship education on the self-reliance of Office Technology and Management (OTM) students in polytechnics in Abia State, Nigeria. Against the backdrop of rising unemployment and overdependence on white-collar jobs, the research evaluates whether entrepreneurship education equips students with practical skills, innovative thinking, and the confidence required for independent economic survival.
A descriptive survey research design was adopted, with data collected from selected polytechnic students using structured questionnaires. The study examined key variables such as entrepreneurial knowledge, skill acquisition, mindset development, and post-graduation intentions.
Findings reveal that entrepreneurship education significantly enhances students’ ability to think independently, identify business opportunities, and develop relevant skills. However, gaps exist in practical exposure, funding access, and institutional support.
The study concludes that while entrepreneurship education is a powerful tool for self-reliance, its effectiveness depends on implementation quality. Recommendations include curriculum restructuring, increased practical training, and stronger institutional-industry collaboration.
