Abstract

ABSTRACT This study investigates the influence of trade unionism on management policies within the National Population Commission (NPC), Port Harcourt. Trade unions have historically played a critical role in shaping labor relations, advocating for workers’ rights, and influencing organizational decision-making processes. This research explores how union activities—such as collective bargaining, negotiation, and industrial actions—affect management strategies, policy formulation, and workplace harmony. A descriptive research design was adopted, utilizing questionnaires and interviews to gather data from staff members of NPC Port Harcourt. The findings reveal that trade unionism significantly impacts management policies, particularly in areas of employee welfare, salary structures, job security, and working conditions. However, it also highlights challenges such as delays in decision-making and occasional conflicts between management and union leaders. The study concludes that while trade unions are essential for protecting employee interests, there must be a strategic alignment between union demands and organizational goals to ensure productivity and sustainability. Recommendations are provided to enhance collaboration and reduce conflict between both parties.
