DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN ONLINE COLLABORATIVE CODE COMPILER WITH AI-POWERED DEBUGGING ASSISTANCE
Abstract
This project presents the design and successful implementation of an online collaborative code
compiler, a platform engineered to address the inherent challenges of real-time software
development and debugging. The system’s architecture is built on a robust technology stack,
featuring a FastAPI backend for efficient API communication, a Monaco Editor and JavaScriptbased
frontend for a rich user experience, and a PostgreSQL database for persistent data
management. At its core, the platform utilizes WebSockets to enable instantaneous, real-time code
synchronization among multiple users, fostering a truly collaborative environment.
A key innovation of this project is the SmartAIDebugger service, which integrates cutting-edge
AI models from both Google Gemini and Hugging Face. This integration allows the system to
provide intelligent, context-aware suggestions for error detection, code optimization, and bug
fixing. Furthermore, a secure code execution environment, sandboxed within Docker containers,
ensures that all user-submitted code runs in complete isolation, mitigating potential security risks.
The system also supports a multi-language framework, a folder system for project organization,
and integrated terminals, providing a comprehensive and efficient development experience.
This project details the successful development and rigorous validation of all core system
components. The project not only achieves its primary objectives but also contributes to the field
by demonstrating a scalable, modular, and secure architecture for collaborative coding. It sets a
strong foundation for future enhancements, paving the way for more sophisticated, AI-driven tools
that can significantly improve developer productivity and reshape the landscape of online
education and professional collaboration.
