EFFECT OF CASHFLOW ON CORPORATE PERFORMANCE OF CONSUMER GOODS SECTOR IN NIGERIA (A STUDY OF BUA CEMENT PLC, 2014-2023)
Abstract
This research, titled “Effect of Cashflow on Corporate Performance in the Consumer Goods Sector in Nigeria: A Study of BUA Cement Plc (2014-2023),” aims to investigate the impact of cashflow from operating, investing, and financing activities on the net profit margin of BUA Cement Plc. The study employs an ex-post facto research design and utilizes secondary data sourced from the annual reports and financial statements of BUA Cement Plc for the period from 2014 to 2023. The formulated hypotheses were tested using the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression analysis method with E-Views 10. The findings indicate that cash flow from operating activities, investing activities, and financing activities do not significantly affect the performance of BUA Cement Plc in Nigeria. The study concludes that cash flow has no significant impact on corporate performance in the consumer goods sector in Nigeria. Based on these results, the study recommends that BUA Cement Plc focus on optimizing operational efficiencies and cost management to enhance profitability independent of operational cash flows. Additionally, the company should prioritize strategic investment planning to ensure that investments contribute to long-term growth and value creation, rather than solely immediate profit margins. Finally, BUA Cement Plc should review its financing strategies to support overall financial health and sustainable growth, even if these do not directly influence short-term profitability.
