Abstract

ABSTRACT This study assessed the effect of asset management on financial performance of consumer goods firms in Nigeria. The dearth of empirical evidence and literature on the influence of the asset management on financial performance in consumer goods firms in Nigeria were the major motivation for this study. An ex –post facto research design approach was adopted for the study. The population of this study comprised of nine (9) listed consumer goods firms in Nigeria. Using time series data for the period of ten (10) years (2014 to 2023) and a purposive sampling method, Unilever Nigeria Plc was chosen as the sample size, this was due to its profitability position in the industry. Secondary data were obtained which included the annual report of the companies from 2014 to 2023 financial year derived from the company and the company’s website. The data collected were presented and analyzed using tables, descriptive and inferential statistics. Three hypotheses were formulated and tested in the course of this study. Ordinary least square regression test by aid of E-views 10.0 software was used to test the effect of Receivable’s Turnover Ratio, Inventory Turnover Ratio and Equity Multiplier Ratio on return on asset (ROA) of Unilever Nigeria Plc. The results showed that account receivables turnover ratio does not significantly affect return on asset of consumer goods firms in Nigeria. The findings further revealed that Inventory turnover ratio significantly affected return on asset of consumer goods firms in Nigeria. Finally, the result established also that Equity multiplier ratio significantly affected return on asset of consumer goods firms in Nigeria. Consequent upon the findings, the study recommends that management should pay more attention on effective means of collecting the monies owed to the organization were collected and promptly too. Records of increasing bad debt value and provisioning for doubtful debts erode the financial capability of the organization
