KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE OF WOMEN OF CHILDBEARING AGE TOWARDS EFFECTIVE UTILIZATION OF HEALTH CARE FACILITIES IN IDO LOCAL GOVERNMENT OYO STATE

This project investigated the knowledge and attitude of pregnant women towards effective utilization of health care facilities in Ido Local Government Oyo State. To carry out this research, objectives were set to assess knowledge, attitude and practice of pregnant women towards effective utilization of health care facilities; examine the factors responsible for non-utilization of the health care facilities; and to investigate the alternative health care facilities available in Ido Local Government Oyo State. Data were collected using simple random sampling, review of related literatures and as well questionnaire that was administered to 100 respondents in selected health facilities in EREDO. Data collected were analysed using simple percentage method. The findings of the study revealed that the types of service rendered and corresponding responses from the people are very high. The research also revealed that the cause of low utilisation of health service is traceable to the hospital staff’s attitude. The negative effect made the pregnant women to patronise traditional medicine. Conclusions were drawn based on the findings and possible solution to handle the situation. Some of these include, staff and government should improve the training of the staff in hospital on their conduct and attitude in their workplace and to improve on the facilities in government hospital.
