THE MINERALOGY AND MINERAL CHEMISTRY OF ROCKS AND SOILS AROUND OKAAKA, SOUTHWESTERN NIGERIA
Abstract
Mineralogical composition of pegmatite bearing rock, soil and stream sediment were carried out around okaaka, southwestern Nigeria with a view to determine the mineralogical phase of pegmatite and their distribution hidden in the complex rigolith over various lithological units around the study area. The complex regolith developed over various lithological units such as talcose, granite, quartz, amphibolite schist, quartz schist.
The soil and stream sediment were collected across various location and rivers or streams respectively, we note all the direction of flow of each stream in the study area, and the soil samples were collected by scooping reddish brown soil developed below the humic top soil. The samples were air dried, and we used light bulb to fasten the drying in school campus for days, the rock, soil, stream sediment were pulverized in the geochemistry laboratory, Department of Geology, Ajayi Crowther University Oyo. The samples were subsequently analysed using Quantitative evaluation of Minerals Using Scanning Electron Microscopy (QEMSCAN), It is a sampling method that couples Scanning Electron Microscopy and Energy Dispersive X-ray spectrometry.
Results obtained from the analysis received revealed that the major and trace elements are appreciably high to detect economic minerals.
