UNDERGRADUATE UTILIZATION OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES RESOURCES FOR LEARNING IN NORTH-CENTRAL NIGERIA: A CASE STUDY OF UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The Utilization of Information and Communication Technology Resources by Undergraduate Students in University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria are one of the factors that will determine their academic success or failure. Many kinds of research have uncovered that some undergraduates use ICT resources for either academic or non-academic purposes. However, not many undergraduates have embraced the use of ICT resources for learning, especially in Kwara State. This study, therefore, investigated undergraduates 'utilization of Information Communication and Technology resources for learning in Kwara State. The objectives of this study were to: examine undergraduates' actual use of ICT resources; examine undergraduates' access to ICT resources for learning; investigate undergraduates' extent of use of ICT resources for learning; examine undergraduates' extent of use of ICT resources for learning based on gender; ascertain undergraduates' extent of use of ICT resources for learning based on field of study. The research adopted the cross-sectional survey approach, using the quantitative method. 374 copies of questionnaires were the data analyses forming the sample of the study. A researcher-designed questionnaire was used to gather data in the study. The findings of this study show that undergraduates do not have access to a number of ICT resources for their learning in Kwara State as expected. The findings of this research also established the fact that gender and field of study did not influence the use of ICT resources among undergraduates. It was revealed that there are disparities in undergraduate males and females access to ICT resources for their learning. Based on the findings, it was recommended that the use of ICT resources should be embraced in and outside the classroom environment by undergraduates, instruction facilitators, and stakeholders.
