VIRTUAL REALITY (VR) TOURISM EXPERIENCE IN MAIDUGURI
Abstract
Abstract
The Virtual Reality (VR) Tourism Experience in Maiduguri project explores the integration of cutting-edge VR technology into the tourism sector of Maiduguri, Nigeria. Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, is celebrated for its rich cultural heritage, historical significance, and natural beauty. However, the city faces challenges in promoting tourism due to security concerns and limited accessibility. This research aims to design, develop, and assess the impact of a VR Tourism Experience that immerses visitors in Maiduguri's cultural assets, historical sites, and natural landscapes. By leveraging VR technology, this project seeks to enhance visitor engagement, increase awareness of the city's cultural heritage, and elevate overall tourist satisfaction. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining surveys, interviews, and content analysis to collect and analyze data from tourists and key stakeholders. The study also investigates the technical, logistical, and economic feasibility of implementing VR technology in Maiduguri's tourism sector. The findings of this research reveal that the VR Tourism Experience effectively showcases Maiduguri's cultural heritage, resulting in increased visitor engagement, heightened awareness, and elevated satisfaction levels. However, challenges related to initial investment, technical expertise, and hardware accessibility must be addressed to fully unlock the potential of VR technology in the city's tourism sector. The implications of this research extend to the sustainable development of tourism in Maiduguri, offering a resilient alternative during crises and contributing to cultural preservation. Recommendations for future research and practical applications focus on addressing challenges, enhancing content, and promoting VR tourism in Maiduguri and beyond.
