Abstract

ABSTRACT This study investigates the role of e-government in enhancing public service delivery, with a focus on the Borno State Geographic Information Service (BOGIS). The study aims to: (1) identify the e-governance initiatives implemented in BOGIS, (2) examine the efficiency of these initiatives, and (3) investigate the challenges hindering their effective implementation. A mixed-method approach was employed, utilizing questionnaires and interviews to collect data from relevant stakeholders. The findings reveal that e-governance initiatives, such as online land registration, GIS mapping, and automated payment systems, have significantly improved service delivery in BOGIS by enhancing transparency and accessibility. However, challenges such as inadequate ICT infrastructure, low digital literacy, and cyber security concerns were identified as barriers to full implementation. The study concludes by recommending improvements in ICT infrastructure, capacity building, and public awareness campaigns to optimize the benefits of e-governance in BOGIS.
