Abstract

ABSTRACT The aim of this investigation was to isolate and identified keratinase producing bacteria from poultry waste. The isolation was performed by serial dilution and spread plate method.Total of six isolates were isolated from the collected soil sample. All isolates were screened proteolytic activities by skimmed milk agar, only four isolates were positive. A transparent, clear zone was identified in each isolate during the primary screening on skimmed milk agar.On skimmed milk agar plates with streaked pure culture growth, these four strains gave a positive clear zone (35mm) from Bacillus subtilis and (15) from Bacillus licheniforms. These four strains are Bacillus licheniforms, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereusm and Bacillus subtilis. Base on' morphology and biochemical analysis the isolates were identified as Bacillussp and Pseudomona ssp.
