THE ROLE OF CHURCH LEADERS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF DUNAMIS CHURCH IN MAKURDI METROPOLIS

Leadership is a dynamic reciprocal process of personal influence by which a leader shapes the attitudes and activities within the leader and the led towards the achievement or attainment of organizational objectives. Even before the modern concepts of leadership came into being, there have been models for biblical qualities of church leaders. These have remained the model for ages. However, it has been observe that church leaders in Nigeria has shown a marked departure from qualities good church leadership. Hence, the desire for good leadership of the Nigerian church leaders has motivated the researcher to this study which is to examine the role of church leaders in the development of Dunamis church in Makurdi metropolis. The growth and development of Dunamis Church in Makurdi Metropolis has been poor due to the quality of church leaders. The impact of bad church leadership in Dunamis Church has led to the growth and underdevelopment. In bringing out this view, the study adopted the historical and expository methods to examine the role of church leaders in Nigeria. The study relied on both primary and secondary sources of data. The study find out church leaders are at the forefront of development of the church in Nigeria. The study revealed that lack of good leadership has negative impact on the development of the church in Nigeria. The study therefore recommended that Religious leaders in Nigeria should be faithful in the discharge of their duties, be it in the Church or in the civil society; for both belong to God. Finally, the study conclude that church leaders cultivate good qualities in order to promote the growth and development of Nigerian especially Dunamis Church in Makurdi.
