This study investigated secondary school teachers awareness of genetically caused disorders in Ondo West Local Government Area. A sample of one hundred (100) senior secondary school teachers was selected as respondents for the study through accidental sampling technique. The research instruments used for the study was Awareness of Genetically caused Disorders Questionnaire (AGCDQ). ”.Data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics of frequency count, percentage, mean and standard deviation. Finding revealed that the current level of awareness of teachers in Ondo West local Government is low and the genetically caused disorder that the teachers are more aware of are fragile x syndrome (intellectual disability), trisomy 18 (developmental delay disorder), Cancer. . The study recommended among others that the practical aspects of genetics be taught in the laboratory, either physical or virtual, to aid understanding and lesson study difficulties. Also it might be difficult to increase the instructional time setup for learning genetics in biology in schools, yet innovative instructional approaches such as blended and flipped learning, among others, could be leveraged by biology instructors to further engage science students in genetics.
