Abstract

This project developed a database system for patient management system to enable fast and easy access to medical care by patients. This web-based software will reduce the stress patients and healthcare practitioners go through in order to book and meet up with medical appointments. Today, some problems persist in the hospital such as loss patients’ medical records and other important files. Besides, patients spend a lot of time, forming queues to see a doctor. Even in emergency cases, it is difficult to see a doctor in the hospital. This often leads to death of patients or worsening of their health condition. The researcher adopted observation method, interview method and review of existing documents in order to collect data for this research work. The researcher used the OOADM modeling tool to model the new system. MySQL was used to design the database. The project was implemented using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP. The web application can run on both desktop and mobile browsers. This software will replace the manual method, thereby speeding up the processing, storage and retrieval of information, which will greatly assist the medical personnel in performing their duties while assisting patients to easily get timely medical attention. In conclusion, the proposed system will improve healthcare of Enugu citizens by giving them easy and quick access to medical care at an affordable rate.
