Abstract

Laboratory study was conducted to study the effect of PSA on the geotechnical properties of lateritic soil, the lateritic soil was treated 0,5,10 and 15% periwinkle shell ash. Atterberg limit test, California bearing capacity, unified confined system were carried out to evaluate the effect of PSA on the plasticity and strength properties of the soil, the CBR increases from 2% of the natural to maximum value of 22 at 15% treatment similar the CBR (unsoaked) increased from the natural of 4% to 35% at 15% PSA content the UCS increased with the increased in PSA as well as increased the curing period microanalysis (XRF,XRD,SEM and FTIR) were also carried out on the natural and treated soil to evaluate the variation in composition, crystalline mineral, morphology and the basic functional groups respectively, the result shows that crystalline compound (calcium silicate and calcium aluminate silicate hydrate) for the strength of treated soil which are responsible were form.
