Abstract

Repeated administration of artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs) has been linked to the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the brain. This study investigates the protective roles of Vitamin A, Vitamin E, and Omega-3 fatty acids against such oxidative damage. Adult Wistar rats were treated with artemisinin-based drugs, with some groups receiving antioxidant co-administration. Biochemical analysis of brain tissue showed that ACTs increased lipid peroxidation and decreased antioxidant enzyme activities. However, co-administration of the vitamins and fatty acids significantly modulated these oxidative stress indices, suggesting a potent neuroprotective synergy that maintains redox homeostasis in the brain.
