ACCESS CONTROL FOR AN ONLINE VOTING SYSTEM USING CRESCENT UNIVERSITY AS A CASE STUDY
Abstract
Access Control mechanisms offer a robust framework to address these challenges by regulating user permissions based on predefined roles. In healthcare, for instance, Access Control has proven effective in restricting sensitive patient data to authorized personnel, as evidenced by its adoption in systems. Applied to online voting, Access Control can unify disparate interfaces into a single platform, where voters access ballot interfaces, administrators manage candidate lists, and system managers configure security protocols—all within the same ecosystem. This centralized approach minimizes redundancy, enhances scalability, and reduces vulnerabilities associated with data fragmentation. A 2021 case study of a university e-voting system demonstrated that integrating Access Control reduced administrative workload by 40% while eliminating unauthorized access incidents.
