Abstract

ABSTRACT This study examined the effect of change management on employee performance, with specific focus on the School of Management Studies, Ramat Polytechnic, Maiduguri. The study was motivated by the persistent challenges of poor employee performance in Nigerian public institutions, which are often linked to ineffective management of organizational change. The research specifically investigated the effects of technological change, organizational leadership change, and organizational culture on employee performance. A survey research design was adopted, and data were collected through structured questionnaires administered to a sample of 64 staff selected from a population of 76 employees using simple random sampling technique. Descriptive statistics and analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to analyze the data and test the hypotheses. The findings revealed that technological change has a significant positive effect on employee performance, particularly through improved efficiency and reduced workload. Similarly, organizational leadership change was found to significantly influence employee performance by enhancing direction, communication, and motivation within the organization. In addition, organizational culture was shown to have a significant relationship with employee performance, as shared values and beliefs shape employees’ attitudes and adaptability to change. The study concluded that effective management of change plays a critical role in improving employee performance in educational institutions. It recommended that management should adopt effective communication strategies, involve employees in change processes, provide adequate training, and strengthen organizational culture to minimize resistance and enhance performance.
