Abstract

Over the years, Calabar metropolis has increased in population, this increase also includes vehicular movement which has put more pressure on existing transport infrastructures like roundabouts, the Effio-Ette roundabout being a typical example. Video data was collected from the four (4) arm Effio-Ette roundabout over a period of seven days during peak period. Using the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) and Raff’s method of gap acceptance theory, data was analyzed for Accepted and Rejected gaps, critical gap and follow up time. The result achieved from this research shows that the parliamentary arm (Arm 3) is currently the least saturated having a v/c of -0.0429, with MCC and Akia-Effa arm (Arm 4 and 2) being the most saturated. The study concludes that either the current geometry of the roundabout is improved upon, also the introduction of an interchange is a possible solution, or the roundabout should be signalized
