Abstract

ABSTRACT This study is aimed at investigating and harnessing the usefulness of microbial isolates obtained from soil in Akpabuyo Local Government Area for ioprospecting of crude oil using standard procedures. Result showed that total heterotrophic bacterial counts had ranged from 5.4 x 10 cfu/g to 6.0 x 10 cfu'g. The biochemical characterization analysis revealed that Staphylococcus species, Klebsiella species, Escherichia coli, Lactobacillus species, Enterobacter species, Salmonella species, Bacillus species, Micrococcus species, Proteus species are the suspected organisms obtained from the soil samples analysed. Furthermore, these organisms were subjected to hydrocarbon utilizing potentials, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella species, Enterobacter species, Lactobacillus species showed positive hydrocarbon utilizing potentials. This is actually true because this organism may have been documented to have the ability to utilized hydrocarbons. Further analysis should be Carried out for more discovery because this microorganism shows good potentials of crude oil discovery.
