DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF AN IMPROVED DE-COBBING MACHINE
Abstract
This chapter provides a detailed analysis of the results obtained from the improved corn de-cobbing machine. Initially, harvested corn was dried to a moisture content of 17% to achieve optimal de-cobbing performance. The operational method prioritizes safety and processing efficiency, with a recommended maximum load capacity of 20 kg per cycle to ensure durability.
Key findings from the study include a hopper volume of 1.057 m3, a de-cobbing speed of 886rpm, a power requirement of 835 kW, and a belt length of 703 mm. The efficiency analysis reveals a remarkable de-cobbing efficiency of 97%, which notably increases with higher load capacities. This improvement signifies a substantial reduction in the labor traditionally associated with manual de-cobbing processes.
When compared to existing machines, the improved model demonstrates enhanced cost-effectiveness, energy efficiency, and quieter operation. Additionally, it features an integrated hulling process for chaff removal, positioning it as a viable option for both domestic and industrial applications.
