ASSESSMENT OF BACTERIA ASSOCIATED WITH SPENT ENGINE OIL-CONTAMINATED SOIL FROM MECHANIC WORKSHOPS IN GADAU, BAUCHI STATE.
Abstract
The study was designed to evaluate the bacterial associated with spent engine oil. Five mechanical workshops within Gadau metropolis were selected and triplicate soil samples were collected for analysis. These were analyzed using Nutrient Agar enrichment medium. Samples were enumerated using ten folds’ dilution from 1:10 to 1:100000 from the soil samples. The bacterial colony forming units on nutrient agar and mineral salt medium of mechanical workshop V, W, X,Y,and Z were 9.8 x 105, 8.6X105, 8.7 x 105, 7.4 x 105, and 6.9 x 105, respectively.
