DEVELOPMENT OF SPILLED OIL SCAVENGER ON WATERWAYS FOR HYDROCARBON POLLUTED AREAS
Abstract
Oil spillage on waterways poses a severe threat to aquatic ecosystems and local livelihoods, particularly in oil-producing regions. This project details the development of a mechanical "spilled oil scavenger" designed to effectively collect and remove floating hydrocarbons from water surfaces. The prototype utilizes a belt-skimmer mechanism to separate oil from water based on surface tension and viscosity differences. Experimental tests conducted on various oil types demonstrate high recovery efficiency, providing a scalable and cost-effective solution for local environmental remediation in polluted waterways.
