DETERMINATION OF ANTIOXIDANT LEVEL OF TRICHOSANTHES CUCUMERINA (SNAKE GOURD) ETHANOL LEAF EXTRACT
Abstract
This study investigates the antioxidant potential of Trichosanthes Cucumerina (Snake Gourd) extract using three different in vitro assays: DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP. The extract demonstrated significant free radical scavenging activity with an IC50 value of 42.23 µg/mL in the DPPH assay, indicating strong free radical neutralization. The ABTS radical scavenging assay showed even higher potency, with an IC50 of 30.12 µg/mL. Additionally, the extract exhibited notable ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) with a value of 3.22 mmol Fe²⁺/g, suggesting a robust capacity to act as a reducing agent. These results highlight the extract's promising antioxidant properties, which could be beneficial in applications requiring oxidative stress mitigation, such as food preservation, pharmaceuticals, or cosmetics.
